Camping & moving across the US from duty with an F-4 squadron at NAS Miramar, CA, to Test Pilot School at NAS Patuxent River, MD. Summer of 1969. '63 B Coupe nicknamed "Lemon Drop." Me, my wife, one year old son (Retiring from Navy this Spring with 30 years!), and a miniature Schnauzer. Thanks to my maintenance crew in last squadron, I had a big, aircraft aluminum, L-shaped bracket that bolted to the back rack (which I still have!) that held two large suitcases, a Coleman Lamp, etc., and large pouches and straps! Great trip! 1-yr old and dog sat on top of folded tent and other stuff. Seat belts?? It's 1969! When I bought the car in San Antonio (after, sadly, I lost reverse gear in my '60 Super 90 Cab), I had the dealer add lap belts! Revolutionary, at the time! Car is now belongs to David Patrick, thanks to David Jones, and he's restoring it! Fun times!!

- In the photo with your 1 year old, what is that green thing just in front of the standard coleman lantern?
- What sort of roof rack was that?

The green thing was a "tent heater!" And some of the nights on those "western stretches" got a little chilly!! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpci0kmlhtI) This looks like the model I had, but it's not, the principal is the same! It worked!
The rack was a VW rack I bought that "fit" on the coupe. The only issue was: When it was loaded down with all the stuff I had up there, one of the cross rails rubbed on the roof. Consequently, to this day, unless David Patrick has already stripped off the original paint and the second layer I had put on in Tijuana in '68, the "rub mark" remains!!
