356C heater slide location

#1 Post by Greg Spreeman »

I installed my carpet with no intention of installing heater slides since I don't intend on driving in cold weather. Well, I changed my mind. Can someone provide me with some dimensions as to the location of the heater slides? I am guessing it would be impossible to find the original screw holes with the carpet all glued down.

Thanks all.

Greg;
I have to do the same thing. The previous owner put in new carpet but never cut out the holes for the heater outlet so what I shall do is feel for the hole then cut it open to the oval shape of the hole in the box section then place the heater slide over the hole, and then using some toothpicks or something similar locate all four holes through the slide backplate holes and then insert the screws. Should be a piece of cake as we Brits say.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

Greg, Once you find the big hole for the heat outlet, put the heater
slide in place and using a hatpin start probing thru the carpet. Once
you find one hole keep probing and you will eventually find all. Hatpins
are standard tools in my shop.

Thank you in advance for your continued help.

I have some questions about heater slides for my 65C.
1.) Are the slides in the attached picture correct for my 65C?
2.) Are there only two screws used to mount the 65C slides?
3.) Are the mount holes for the 65C the two circles in the center section of the slide?

I have researched and looked at many photos but am a little confused. I see some if not most slides are mounted using four screws on the four corners of the slide. Some of the slides for sale on sites have holes on the four corners and some don't.

The slide is mounted using the holes at the corners. All were mounted that way. Move the plastic slide to uncover the other two holes.

Thanks David. These slides dont have the 4 holes, one on each corner. What looks to be a hole on the slide is what I believe is a stop for the black slide. I'm thinking these are the wrong slides or aftermarket.

I also have this heater slide that came with the car. I think it's safe to say it's an after market part. I have searched seaveral vendors but can't find a match. Anyone familiar with this slider, specifically the color of it? I don't see any markings on it to identify where it came from.

Thanks

James,
The sliders in post #6 are correct. My car is a '65C (not '62 as first posted) #220994 and has the same sliders. They are mounted with 2 screws in the center of the circular depressions. Move the slide forward to expose the 2nd depression/hole.

Thanks Don.

So unfortunately now I have 1 for using four corners and 1 for using the depression holes.

And a hole in each circular depression. Wonder which is correct?

Please let me (us) know if anyone else can confirm if 4 screws are used in each corner or 2 screws in the center of the circular depressions for a 1965 C. Thanks!
