Attention doubters: I will attend Stoddars Swap Meet, Read Post

#1 Post by Jeffrey Fellman »

It has been brought to my attention that certain persons are telling people that I am falsely claiming to be shutting down or at least radically changing operation of my Business and am selling ALL my 356 parts to the bare wall as I have indeed moved to France. This at least to me smells like calling me a liar or at best dishonest. This person is very prominent on the 356 Registry, you can fill in the blanks. I have already moved more or less permanently to my house in France and am selling every damn molecule of 356 parts that I have had for decades. Not quite a distress sale but I really need to recover the space involved as I will be converting to a small apartment for the colder months when I choose to come back to the US. To be clear I am very motivated and the person who has evidently been telling anyone who will listen that I am "crying wolf" can ask Pete Bartelli or Glen Getchell where I hang my hat these days. I will be at Stoddard and selling many of my wheels at prices I have never offered to the public before. I am fairly sure unless someone buys the busines that I will simply sell stock on hand until it is gone. I own the "LL" trademark and will not allow anyone else to make "LL" wheels. Even were I to do so i rather doubt in the face of the shrinking market that any one would choose to make the six figure investment to do the B/C LL wheel again, I have about twelve pieces and when they are gone I cannot say for sure but would not rely on them ever being made again. The bending tool alone was $30K. I apply the engine turning in house and the fixtures and equipment is not cheap not to mention the skill required. This is a lengthy way of saying that if you were thinking about buying one of my LL wheels I would not think they will last out the year. I will be selling them stupid cheap for cash at Stoddards and keep the Forum posted. Here is a photo of the bicycle races past my house in Bord Saint Georges.

Your various messages have sure seemed like you are legitimately getting out of business, and the tone of some of them have sounded like you didn’t care what anyone thought, not as if you were courting buyers for a continuing business.

I’m just pointing out what I’ve seen, it’s fine and I wish you well.

Kind of like the store that's been in New York's Times Square for about 40 years called "Going Out Business"

I hope you need an LL wheel next year! Unless someone buys the business you will be reduced to a limited selection of aftermarket dreck. Most of us guys who have been making your super specialized parts are ready to throw in the towel. How can you justify making 500 pieces when you see your annual sales will take you well into the end of the next decade? I ran out of top rings this year, the minimum number I could make was 500. I sell about 100 wheels a year that use the ring. I really am closing. I will be looking at 400 top rings when I close the doors. Want any?

Many have asked, why France. First off I do not live in or near Paris, it is a cesspool. I live in France, real France. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Here is a picture of my next door neighbors and my 15th century cellar. Nuff' said?

That looks very peaceful Jeffrey! The French countryside is like travelling back in time. Charming is an understatement.

Just please keep in mind for your next of kin... the French are not kind to inheritance, not kind at all.

I seem to peer through a glass, darkly.
