Cloth headliners on first 356A cars

Helping a friend. I believe the very first A cars produced in '55 came with a cloth headliner like the pre-A cars. Curious to hear if others have observed the same and if a cut-off point is know for when they switched to the later perforated headliners?

As a further follow-up. These early A cars might have had the front and engine compartment padding as see on the pre-A cars also

I have received further confirmation on the cloth headliner and engine and front compartment padding being used on the very first A cars

Cool Joris! Interesting to hear. You have a preliminary chassis number range? I think certainly by coupe 55353 the perforated headliner and standard A T1 engine compartment insulation was used.

James,

So far I have some data points based on the first ~50 cars. Would love to gather more. Anybody know how to search the database for ranges? The old one had this functionality

Mike Immarino owns what *might* be the first 356A in the states. He has the Reutter certificate which indicates that the car had the cloth headliner if I recall correctly. I can contact him and ask if you'd like me to Joris.

Yes, I have some photos of Mike's "European", 55068, though not the headliner. Lovely car.

Joris,

Mike confirmed the cloth headliner was listed on his Reutter certificate and sent me this image showing it in his car with permission to post it.

Thanks a lot for sharing Sebastian. I have been corresponding with a member offline and he believes the first 100 - 150 A cars had the pre-A features discussed here. This gives my friend the confidence to push through with his car. Still would be nice to see if we can narrow the range a bit and gain input from more cars. I am also trying to reach-out to Guido to see if the Reutter records might hold any clues

Car No. 55096 shows a perforated leatherette headliner in the Reutter documentation. But there are some myserious things about the car, because the Kadex
shows a red interieur and the Reutter documenation says it was grey. Reutter says it had a blue carpet, but I pulled out a beige one out from under the heavyly rusted
seat rails. I dont know who have done misstakes in the documentation. I got a call last year with the last recorded owner of 1963. At this time the cars paint was already
changed from aquamarine blue metallic into red. Perhaps the carpet was changed at this point, too. I asked him for pictures, but no reply until today. I would like to
solve this mystery.
