so how important is a "classic technical certificate"? does this supersede a Kardex?

I'm the very happy new owner of a 1964 356 C coupe and i'm interested in documenting its history a bit more...

thanks!

The Kardex is the original document and the source for any info on the COA.

All the information comes from the original Kardex. The "Classic Technical Certificate" is useless, unless you supply the engine and transmission numbers; if they are original, the certificate will acknowledge that; otherwise they will not supply the original numbers.

LIFE WITHOUT KARDEX? Some of us own these vehicles to celebrate and share a bit of history. Having factory build documents would be a big part of this celebration, if it were allowed. I am the second owner of one of my 356B coupes and knew the original purchaser and the car, when it was just 3 years old. In 1965, I helped fill out the option / order sheet for the family Mustang. I know exactly what each came with when new, independent of factory documentation. This information, plus hundreds of words on the car's history since, will be priceless to the next owner of each car.
Actions each of us can take, without vexing those on high, include documenting all we know about our car. You need not share it all on line, although there are places here to do so.
When the next owner takes over, your purchase date and place, and all the big things you have done with the car, and to it, will add to the enjoyment of the next person / family. Having the original engine is a noble and lofty goal. Having a written history of the car can enhance ownership even more.

Hi everyone - I bought 86408 chassis (58 speedster) last summer and my COA has essentially no info…

I love the car / planning to keep forever and would love to actually learn what the actual facts are re: original color etc.

Could someone ping me if they can help find Kardex? Happy to pay a fee.

Thanks
Nico

86408 is a 59 convertible D, not a speedster.

See post 4 regarding obtaining a Kardex. It refers to this post where it states that posting sources of obtaining a Kardex are not allowed in the forum.

Apparently Mr. Pateman did not read that post or the policy, and, instead of just removing a small part of his post as requested, deleted his entire informative post.

If you need a Kardex, post the need and wait for an email from one or more members who will respond with source info. It's not against the rules to ask and, last I heard, not against the rules to email.

David, you could do us all a favor by posting that information again, but leaving out the sourcing information that was objectionable. Thanks for your willingness to share.

We too are just becoming 356 C owners! 1964 coupe which started life in California, travelled to the UK in the 80s then on to Ireland in 2005.

We would dearly love to know all the Kardex details.

And would love to fill in any info from it's past.

We have a lot of paperwork pertaining to the first owner
