Yep I do Martin,
Still learning and the rebuild will be a good exercise.
Spoke to chrome shop albeit not the craftsman but was assured it will be done right.
Take care,
Steve

Steve
Your body man has not fitted the door hinge plates to the body!
Please get the doors fitted before the topcoat goes on.
If you do not there will be a lot of time wasted trying to align the doors correctly. Counting the shims when you take off a door does not guarantee that the door will be flush on reassembly. Do it before the body colour is applied.
The factory built the cars and then removed the hinge pins to remove the doors for painting and trimming.
And remember that only the front bolts have washers. Sixteen bolts, eight washers..........

Hi John,
Yes we have been down that road already and we are aware of what you are talking about.
Saw car in person yesterday and hinges were on car correctly.
He know what he is doing and they pride themselves on panel fit and gaps etc.
Regards,
Steve

And of course you've dry fit the door closing rubber before declaring the door fit.

And make.sure to use those same rubber door seals after you paint the car...! Not all rubber is the same.

Ask me how i know.

So who supplies the proper high bow new soft tops for late Speedsters? Is Auto's International the main player.
Seems tops run about $800 and up less install costs. Curious if a good top upholsterer could save the old top?
Thanks all,
Steve

Steve, I don't know the answer to your question, but I recommend you check with K & H Upholstery in Garden Grove, and Autobahn here in San Diego as well. I have used both with great satisfaction on my Porsche restorations. I suspect they would provide the top and you could have it mounted by someone in Monterey although I cannot recommend anyone in that area anymore. Ask the Ramirez brothers who they are using these days.

Autobahn did the new top for my convertible D that ended up in the trash because they cut it too short. I cannot recommend. Stuttgart interiors here in phoenix replaced the brand new top with a brand new top that fits like a glove.

Augustin at Auto's Int'l is fantastic as well.

Happy Turkey day!
I am talking with three So. CA Porsche shops about a new high bow soft top.
Wanted opinions on best proper type as there is a German canvas Sonnenland and a Sonnendeck type Stayfast.
2-3 hundred dollars difference between the two.
Anyone have experience with either of these? Looking for correct look, most common and ease of installation and long lasting.
K&H has best price, I have bought new Sq. weave carpet from them.
Auto Barn and Auto's Int'l. cost more all have the tan color inside the top.
Cheers!
Steve

You want the tan color with the 'diamond plate' look on the inside, that is what it came with originally. Auto's has the right stuff.

Hi guys,
Need help understanding adding new 2K miles, Dansk exhaust and getting rid of Emory stinger exhaust. I took some pictures here which may or may not be helpful.
Willhoit says the J pipes from cylinders 1 and 3 have the same gaskets as the new Dansk uses with the two mounting holes in place left and right so four gaskets total.
The S pipes go into the bumper guard cones and don't touch them.
I'm looking at where this Dansk is supposed to connect to engine and I see heater boxes with no J pipes currently.
Can anyone please simplify it all for me what I do or don't need to make connection?
Been told this should all work and have no issues by John.
KTF,
Steve

Your third and fourth pictures show the heater box/J pipes. The heat box is welded around the curved front of the J pipe. They can stay in place. Then the two lower pipes coming out of the muffler slide onto them, below the rear of the valve covers. The upper muffler pipes have 2-bolt flanges and bolt to the exhaust ports with gaskets. After that’s all in place you can install the S pipes and wiggle them into place.

The terminology is not all crystal clear. Between the finned oil sump and the straight part of the J pipes are what are usually called the flapper boxes, which close to force already heated cooling air forward through the heater boxes and into the car.

Hey all,
Here are the only body metal pieces cut out from body shop.
Not bad for a 65 year old car. New patch panel have been installed.
Driver door inner hinge receptacle was bent up a bit thus bottom driver door was out a tad this has been corrected. All gaps being made right.
Got a new correct soft top to.
Will post some more pictures when I can.
KTF,
Steve

That’s great that there’s so minimal rust, and that you’ve got it gone now.
