Not a 356, but

#1 Post by Adam Wright »

Max and me were hiking today and from far off on a creek bank I saw a corner window. Could it be, a 356? Nope, it was a bug, but it was a fun find. Perfect weather.

Looks like you found Aintry, Georgia in the Northeast! lol! Or could be Tuckasegee River along the Great Smokey Mountain Railroad in Bryson City, NC. Both used junk cars from the 1940/50's to support the river banks from erosion.

This was common practice everywhere until the 1980s.

In my neighborhood, we have an earthen dam that was partially washed out in the early 1970s, exposing an uncrushed 1949 Mercury (4dr sedan, sorry) and a 1955/56 Ford sedan delivery.

Crushed cars were also used in railroad embankments. I recall seeing a mint condition 1955 or 56 Pontiac Star Chief in a stack of crushed cars awaiting backfill--someone's pride and joy that neither the kids nor grandkids wanted.
