Belong Together?

#1 Post by Rick Wall »

I own spare engine, number P732699 and transmission number 82759. Both appear to originally belong in a 1964 car. Is there any way to know if they left the factory in the same car? And if so, the chassis number of that car?
Probably a long shot.
Thanks,
Rick

easy to find a Range, might need the Kardex to get the exact:

Engine number 732699 is a 1600 C (Type 616/15), part of range 732272 to 733027.

This engine was originally fitted to a car as follows:
1965 (built 1964) C cabriolet (Reutter) with a serial number between 160751 and 161577.
1965 (built 1964) C coupe (Reutter) with a serial number between 130512 and 131927.
1965 (built 1964) C coupe (Karmann) with a serial number between 219070 and 221482.
 Thanks,
Bill

Vic's article on trannies says that the range is 70931 (Aug. 1963) to 86517 (March 1965), roughly 820 a month. So 82759 looks like Fall of 1964. Always check my math!!

Sept 1964, based on the numbers around it.
