356C rear wheel hub speedi sleeve

#1 Post by Chris Cullin »

how have others solved this?

I have radial oil seal wear grooves in my rear wheel hubs. I was looking to install Speedi Sleeves to provide a new surface for the oil seal, but SKF sleeves are a little too small or a little too big. I measure the wheel hub bearing surface at 44mm, or perhaps 43.88 if I stare at the vernier hard enough.

SKF two closest speedi sleeves are:
shaft d min. d max
CR 99171 43.56 43.71
CR 99170 44.09 44.25

Picture added for reference - does not show the bearing surface nor wear groove.

Also Vic. Did the 99171 seal press on per normal installation procedure or did you have to do something special, like heat it up (acknowledging this is not recommended).

Pressed it on cold; no problem.
