Oil Level
I was changing my oil... And I was a bit impatient, didn't wait for it to settle when checking it, and I over filled it by about 1/4 of an inch, rookie mistake!!... Any cool tricks to get a little oil back out???
Thanks,
Bill

Re: Oil Level
Unscrew the drain plug until it leaks but is still engaging threads so it will not come off

Can also remove oil from the oil filter housing using a turkey baster.

Re: Oil Level
It's only a 10 minute job to remove the oil filter, empty it out and replace it. No mess no fuss.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

Wondering how much the oil level will drop when removing the oil from the Filter Can?.. Probably enough!!!!David Jones wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 3:38 pm It's only a 10 minute job to remove the oil filter, empty it out and replace it. No mess no fuss.

Re: Oil Level
Yes when hot. So that small amount won't matter. I often deliberately overfill by a small amount

Re: Oil Level
Drive the car as is. overfilling the oil the small amount you have done will NOT matter at all. al

Re: Oil Level
I always overfill by about 1/8". I learned it from my mechanic uncle and I've never had a problem in almost 50 years.

Re: Oil Level
I suspect the oil level was chosen somewhat arbitrarily and that anything close is just fine.
Always under filling by 1/8” would also been a success for 50 years.

But I don't have to top off the oil as often...Martin Benade wrote: ↑Sun Mar 26, 2023 9:47 pm I suspect the oil level was chosen somewhat arbitrarily and that anything close is just fine.
