Curious as to what model 356 Cabrio could be equipped with a day-night mirror?
I have an original, were they available for A cabs?
Thanks, John

I'm not mistaken I think Brett Johnson just did a piece on these, and I was surprised to see that they were optionally available on a lot more models than I had anticipated.
I believe it was in the Registry magazine.
By the way, check out the Aase Brothers used parts site. It has a surprising number of fairly rare parts that are rationally priced. I think I saw several of these mirrors there as well.
I have no financial interest, of course.

I believe only the C cab had that.mirror base.

Correct Jules, that is a C cab only mirror base. The mirror itself is different from the standard mirror on Cs and was offered as an accessory on T6 B cabs which did not have the day/night feature. Point of interest, it was also used on MB 300SL.

My guess is that it *might* have been available as an aftermarket accessory for A cars, but it didn't appear in the Porsche accessory catalog until the T6 B.

My 65 SC has the 'skinnier' version. I am not sure when the mirror housing changed.

Jules,

The housing for the C day night mirror never changed. The bigger Day/Night mirror shown in the OP is a mirror offered by Porsche as an accessory for the T6 B cab which did not come standard with a Day/Night mirror.

Obviously, as seen in the image from John, along the way people could have replaced the stock Day/Night mirror on a C cab base with the accessory mirror, but C cabs were always delivered with the skinnier version as in your picture.
