Mirror for right side
I have the usual Aero mirror on the left side of my 60 Roadster.
I have a second Aero that has a slight bend to the left, apparently for the right side.
My question, does the second mirror provide additional visibility or is it more for show.
Anyone have a picture with both mirrors mounted?
I did not want to drill holes if there is no benefit. The second mirror is not mentioned in Dr Johnson's book

Re: Mirror for right side
John I think it will work if you mount as Porsche did on the later cars. ie Farther back on the door. Do a google picure search for a 911SC or carrera from above and note that passenger's side mirror is not placed symmetrically with driver's side
1965 356C 2000 BMW 740i Sport 1967 Honda CL77 There is never enough time to do it right, but always enough time to do it over.

Re: Mirror for right side
You might want to consider sitting in the driver's seat and have someone positioning the mirror on the right side to a position that gives you the best visibility. The guy that mounted my Talbot Berlin on the right side screwed up by positioning it symmetrical to the left one. As Doug correctly pointed out, the mirrors are not symmetrical. I made the mirror usable by sticking a bubble mirror to it.

Re: Mirror for right side
Stoddard sells right side Aero mirrors that are convex.
I always add a right side mirror to my cars, it helps when backing up or parallel parking. I’m amazed that so many 356’s don’t have a right side mirror.

Re: Mirror for right side
I thought Roadsters came with Ponto Stabil mirrors--mine (now my son's) did. My COA also listed the "exterior mirror" as optional equipment...

Jon
I think you are correct, but my Roadster already has the same mirror on the left side.
My CARDEX does not mention a mirror, so it could have been placed there by the selling dealer.

Re: Mirror for right side
As I understand it, exterior mirror were not required for European delivery. They could be ordered with one or installed by the handler/dealer in the U.S. The Kardex for my car does not list an exterior mirror.
Dave is right. Adding a mirror to the right side is really helpful including when driving on freeways.

Re: Mirror for right side
As mentioned above. Have somebody position the right side mirror while you sit in the drivers seat. The only way you'll get it right. This is one I've screwed up in the past. ..........Jim.

Re: Mirror for right side
Mirrors were the same, despite which side they were used on, no distinct ‘right’ or ‘left’ types.

Re: Mirror for right side
Aren't some of the stalks straight and others with a slight bend possibly indicating a left/right orientation?

Re: Mirror for right side
That is what I think.
The one I have has the bend to the left and does not appear
to have been altered.

I looked in the A parts manual but didn't find anything. If someone has an A factory accessories brochure, the mirrors are probably listed.

Re: Mirror for right side
John, my Aero mirrows are on my KARDEX . The left mirror is 5.7cm from the door edge along the axis of the mirror. My right mirror is 7.2cm from from the front door edge again running along the axis of the mirror .
