James Dean Speedster article

#1 Post by Bil Brown »

Very interesting information in the new 356 Registry issue on the 1954 #80126 Speedster. One detail I`d never heard was the missing grab handle on the dash. Lee shows a pic of the guys pushing the car onto a trailer, and you can see no grab handle.....or....holes for one.......that`s a very convincing piece of info.....GREAT article Lee.....good job!

Growing up riding shotgun in my dad's Roadster with him at the wheel, that grab handle quickly became my best friend. My dad liked to drive in a, shall we say, spirited manner?

Yes, discovered historic photos from 1955 have been the first-hand / confirming evidence by the second owner — Lew Bracker’s (age 94) excellent memory regarding the modifications that were made by Competition Motors’ mechanics to his F Prod race car— 67 years ago!

Tenacious scholarship performed to get this article done. This may be as close as we ever get to a definitive answer regarding the final whereabouts of James Dean's Speedster. Great work, Lee!

I am framing that cover, Lee. As you know I am a big fan of James Dean and his speedster. I am glad you are a trustee. Tony 81125
See my 1957 speedster "backyard find" story in September\October 356registry magazine. I am always looking for an old Porsche to write stories about or interesting stories about an old Porsche to relay for the magazine.
