Martin Benade et al. Yes, the French seller obtained a Duplicate Registration for #80126 in 2017 ..after originally selling a dilapidated and fragile Speedster, #80126 in July 2011 along with a completely signed Bill of Sale by both parties. The second ‘sale’ took place during 2017 (six years after the French seller’s first sale) to another buyer/ seller located in France - who immediately re-registered the Duplicate document into his name and then made a ‘quick sale’ in 2018 to an Italian restoration shop near Milan. It is not known whether another Speedster chassis was involved in the second and third sales. The first sale in France in 2011 to a Hungarian purchaser represents the authentic 80126 Speedster — and the only valid sale transaction within the EU. Everything else is simply bogus. My forthcoming book James Dean and the Porsche 356 Speedster— Love at First Sight will provide a thorough list of the names and dates regarding the chronology of #80126’s legendary history. For the record, I discovered and published the 80126 VIN during 2004 in Porsche Speedster TYP 540: Quintessential Sports Car. Eventually , not everyone got that shout out. Lee

It’s crazy that he did something that left such a paper trail. He’s lucky nobody important cared.

Lee, Terrific article! I'm 99.99% convinced after reading your article that the Hungarian car is the Real Deal! Great Research!!!!!!

Just curious if threes any update on Dean's 550? I haven't seen anything in quite some time.

Jim Stephenson. “Just curious if there’s any update on Dean’s 550?” Nothing new since the BaT auction of the #10 046 transaxle in May 2021 …purchased for $382k by Zac Bagans of Las Vegas, NV. The carcass of the “Little Bastard “ remains MIA since 1960… despite long-standing, unverifiable rumors.

This reminds me of the story about Spyder 550A-0126 that I talked about in 2019, viewtopic.php?t=48708 apparently another forged Porsche.

Lee, let me add my kudos to the others on a fine article. I went back and reread the first part to refresh my mind before reading this part. Great forensic work. If nothing else, it should preclude any shenanigans involving profit from a fraudulent vehicle.
Some days it's just not worth chewing through the restraints.....

The Registry article was really great.
Does anyone know of a source for the new book mentioned at the end of the article?

Thanks!

The new publication mentioned in the last paragraph, titled "James Dean and the Porsche 356 Speedster: Love at first Sight", cannot be found for sale.
What is the current status of such book?
