Carrera Transmission Mounts

#1 Post by Chris Frank »

Is anyone finally making a repo of the Carreras's original yellow dot transmission mounts? I have the originals, but they are worn and cracked. So I am considering having them re-vulcanized. Has anyone tried one of the re-vulcanizing services like Steele Rubber Products? Before I pursued this, I wondered if someone had already molded and had been doing this with the reinforcement and harder rubber.

Hi Chris
they are under development and should be available soon. Klasse 356 will be the outlet.

PRS Services in the UK have the transmission mounts with the harder durometer rubber as used in the original Carrera mounts but they do not have the metal reinforcement found on the originals. I have been running them on my car since 2015 with no issues.

When were these used? On my early '56, the mounts look standard but then I wasn't looking for any differences.

I was wondering, are the standard mounts fine to use instead, or the harder rubber is necessary?

Hi Chuck,
I`m getting a little old to remember all this stuff now, but I think it was the Carrera 2 generation where the actual metal in the mount was reinforced

I did work on this way, way, way back, but the quantities and the demand at that time, did not warrant any further progression (things have moved on now)
However, it is a good modification and also good to hear that Jacques is now saying `that it is underway`

As a company, we have been supplying slightly harder rubber on these mounts along with harder Torsion Bar Rubber, for over 20 years and any 356 in the UK that we work on is running the harder rubber - it just makes sense

However, as a lot of 356`ers have also worked out - we are also the World’s worst sales people

Proof positive, we have only just got around to a small advertisement in The Best 356 Club Magazine in the world

There were also "yellow dot" front transmission mounts, first used on the 356A Carrera GT models.
Chuck, '56 Carreras were all equipped with standard mounts.

Hi
besides the internal reinforcement the lower bolt had to be longer since the flange was doubled for the lowest hole.

As Jacques mentioned, the Carrera mounts were reinforced in two places. If normal mounts were used in Carreras, a crack would develop near the lower stud. See below. This mount version is not presently produced.

Having had 4 cam car, 1962 carrera 2 one you will notice with carrera moter and trans mounts is that you are going to thing your tranny is about to expload because you will hear all the sound the tranny makes and its alot of noise but it's ok it's normal. Alan The Stable.

Hi Vic and Alan
it's the front mounts that transmit noise. the Carrera ones are NLA and no part-no. is available in the PET.
