ECH

#1 Post by Thomas Sottile »

I am a little disappointed with the lack of space for club members with the 2023 ECH I never saw a registration form in the register magazine and it is full 7 months out seems odd to me

On 12/30/22 an announcement was appropriately posted under 356 Talk- 356 Events forum. The event registration website was provided and the registration date of February 15, 2023 was mentioned with the admonition that registration would fill up quickly. It’s my understanding it filled up in 24 to 48 hours.

The event is at Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock, NC. As a first time ECH attendee I am really looking forward to the event. I don’t know how many cars were allowed at prior ECHs but the venue probably contributed to this year’s cap on registration.

The ECH venue is not that huge, but if anyone remembers the Holiday in Boone NC, a few years ago, all those hotels plus a few new ones are available and only a 30 minute drive from the ECH. If you can’t get in to the Chetola, stay up in Boone. We had a great time up there before.

Is the Holiday itself filled, or just the handiest accommodations?

The actual holiday sold out in 24 hours.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

To be sold out in 23 hrs is a indication of a small expectation which is unreasonable for this type event I chairmen 2 ECH my estimated was 250 people and 150 cars I was close and did not have to turn anyone away

Organizers tend to plan their holidays in attractive locations such as Sedona, Blowing Rock, Flagstaff, etc., selected for their history, scenery and/or access to wonderful roads without having to drive an hour through traffic. Because these areas are not in large metropolitan areas, there are few convention-type venues in the area. Limitations on attendance are driven by the size of those facilities, the number of people allowed in the venues by the fire marshall, the size of the banquet hall, etc., absolutely not by the availability of lodging. The host hotels in these areas often do not have enough rooms for the event, so alternative lodging options are provided. Many people choose alternative lodging on purpose, due to cost, pet access, etc. Lodging is not a factor. LImitations on registrations are expected, reasonable and much thought goes into setting them. Such limitations are the tradeoff, prime locations versus less desirable locations with larger venues.

Wanted to nip this in the bud. Criticisms of volunteers' efforts on holidays have turned very ugly in the past.

Out of curiosity, what number of registrants was determined to be the maximum?
Some days it's just not worth chewing through the restraints.....
