1962 Original Silver Wrenches VS New Version
Decided to start a new thread rather than hijack the current thread on Porsches "Gucci" tool kits being offered.
That set includes the Silver "PORSCHE" end wrenches that are similar to the one-year only sets that came with 1962 356B's.
The wrenches are also offered separately in a very nice metal box with the PORSCHE logo.
I bought a set very reasonably, during a sale, several months ago for my 1962's toolkit that was missing the wrenches. Subsequently I found a long forgotten box of toolkits that included a 1962 set.
I knew the new wrenches are different than the originals, but closer than anything else that have ever been offered for the 1962 since they are silver and had the logo. The most obvious difference is that there are 5 wrenches instead of the original 4. The PORSCHE logo is also slightly different. The extra wrench means that there are also two sizes(13mm & 15mm) that weren't included in the originals. There are several other differences, but those are the most obvious.

I was at the shop (that patronized Porsche) in from the spring of 1962 through most of 1965. As I remember the 1962 tool kit wrenches were black. al zim

I've got a couple of those wrenches with the "Porsche" logo on them that came with some other (possibly) original tools in my '61 T5 notchback's green tool bag. I only have the 17-19 mm and the 8-9mm, both with a good deal of patina. The rest must have been lost to time between previous owners 1 & 2.

Al Zim, I think you are just off a bit on your years. The 62 kits had wrenches that had PORSCHE inscribed and were "chrome." The 63 kits had the "black" DIN 395 wrenches. An excellent resource on the 356 tool kits is www.356tools.com

Yes indeed--those days were a lottta fun w/Al during the 'shopwerk' during 1962 in Wilmington, OH.
Chrome tools thru '59, black tools (895) in '60 thru '61, chrome PORSCHE tools in '62, & continued onward.
However, there was some black tools mixed in from the pre-A days ? I never got into those.
(my opinion; maybe not exact)

I forgot to add a word 'chrome' between continued & onward.

Re: 1962 Original Silver Wrenches VS New Version
I guess when we use the word "tools," at least the tools within a given tool kit associated with a given year, we should be particular about which tool we are referring to. Otherwise, if we take Dick Weiss's observation in #7 above and compare it to the year examples in http://www.356tools.com/ we have substantial disagreement. Consider, for example, just the wrenches. Dick suggests the wrenches were black DIN 895 in 60 through 61, but 356tools indicates these wrenches were only for 63 kits, none before and none after. An additional complication is sometimes sorting out whether the kit that came with the car is actually the kit associated with the production year of the car. I'm told by an aged Porsche agency mechanic that some number of cars arrived without the tool kits and they were added by whatever stock the dealer had. Functionally, little of this matters, but for those owners and judges who are concours enthusiasts, it can matter greatly.

What kind of vice was taking place in that corner? Hopefully Dick wasn't part of it.

I venture to guess few of us have an operational "window washer"... Although all the parts are there, I have no recollection of it ever working, matter or not for judging? Even if not operating, put some fluid in the bottle?

I have seen judges ask to see the wipers work (after you pull them away from the windshield of course) but never seen them ask to squirt the windshield. Among quite a few concourses I have observed, this was only a one time situation where the judges seemed to be focusing on whether all "operating" systems worked. Yes, you probably ought to fill the reservoir with appropriate fluid just for appearance.

Boy, that was a wild jump off subject. Lou, did you intend to post that as part of the concours thread?
