12volt battery

#1 Post by Rusty Ferrell »

Need to replace the battery on a 64 that is 12 volts. What is recommended today? The old diehards had the offset posts for the Carrera, can’t find any offset posts like the 6V.
Thanks,
Rusty

Try an Odyssey at the Batteries Plus Bulbs Store. About $200. Works in my 59A converted to 12V. Terminals are correct.

I have Odyssey PC1200 in my Roadster and it fits perfectly. Also it is a very reliable and VERY strong battery. A bit expensive, but very well worth it.

There is a 12 volt battery that is available to fit most of the 356 automobiles. No advertising or sales are permitted in talk Zim

Hello,

My 356 A 1959 is already converted to 12V.
The battery used till today was not allowing the use of the original cover (too long) but has the positive on the left as it must be.

I would like to use a 12v battery which can be compatible with the original cover.
I have seen several sealed battery compatible with size but they are unfortunately positive on the right. (like VARTA C6 )
Looking to all messages, it seems Odyssey is ok but it is expensive for a battery !

What king of 12v common batteries are you using (except Odyssey) which are compatible with the original positive on the left AND the cover ?
or have you inverted the battery loom to allow positive on the right ?

thanks a lot for your answers

JD.

Oddyssey or optima. They both are ok and can crank forever if needed. And both are dry cell so no acid vapors. Expensive but well worth it in the long run.

There certainly are but you will be buying a new battery every 3 years and a battery box floor in 5!

As was said here before, cheap isn't always the least expensive.

My cheap Tractor Supply batteries last 5 plus years and my battery box has an acid mat. No corrosion.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.
