Notchback glass???

#1 Post by Brian Luce »

I recently bought 3 project cars and some random parts. One of those parts is theoretically rear glass for a notchback. I have no use for it but, before posting for sale, how can I be sure it is truly for a notchback as I have not the knowledge to know? Are there distinguishing marks or dimensions that I could measure to verify originality and model appropriateness?

Not asking for a friend :)

Show us some pics with measurements. Rear glass for a hardtop is similar, but not quite the same. The Notchback is the more valuable of the two. You can also email me pics, adam@unobtanium-inc.com

Brian, you'd need a hardtop rear window to compare it to. A coupe glass is totally different. Ameasurement down the center top to bottom will probably suffice.

Notchback rear windows are hens teeth and pretty valuable for the person in need. Hardtop rear windows are good for the dumpster.

This one I was told was for a hardtop, it did not fit a Notch, too small.

Brian, My T5 notch's rear window measures 15.75" at center height. That is the telling dimension. I believe the 62 T6 models have a higher roof but cannot say for sure.

Brian, if you want to sell it,and it is without defects, I would be in the market. Mine has some crazing and discoloration from being out for a time. Thanks

Well here goes. I'll see if I can get pics to upload. There is a sticker still present in one of the photos, maybe someone will recognize it?! I am interested in parting with it but certainly wanting to make sure I'm confident in what I've got first. Thanks so much for all your help so far!! The script at the bottom reads Duplate, laminated, safety float with PPG logo to left, ASI M52/25B4, DOT 18, and lowest script is FCW034. Probably fits a Volkswagen :o

That is laminated, so it is a windshield. Side and rear windows are tempered but never laminated.

So what you have is an aftermarket replacement windshield that will fit any A, BT5 coupe or any 356 A, B or C cab. Not much value there, most people just buy a new one.

Not to drum up old/bad memories but started work on 1960 cab and realized the windshield we spoke about above may go to it? I was rereading the post and Jules' edit...and am slightly unclear. Would this above mentioned windshield be appropriate for a B cabriolet if in good enough shape?
