Re: Can't get engine in
I ran into the studs being too long on a few cars. Frustrating as all heck!

Yeah, Mike - the 912 has somewhat longer bottom studs on the motor and they do not work with the 356 tranny. I struggled with that once or twice

David - did you ever get the engine back in your car ??
I guess that one of the 18 - owners, who took the trouble to reply, must have been correct ?

Maybe he's still struggling with it...... somebody nearby want to go check on him?

Take a look at the pilot bearing. Make sure it didn't get damaged.

Re: Can't get engine in
I replaced the transmission mounts in my '64 and the studs as mentioned above were just slightly too long which stopped the mounting procedure about 1 inch from happiness. Lots of frustration before I figured that out and ground down the studs.

Good foto's always help us diagnose what the problem is. Simple to do in a few minutes.

Re: Can't get engine in
I talked to David. (fellow Canadian)
He took his C engine out and got his rebuilt 59 engine back in, but it would not start, ru,ru.. only.
He checked all of the grounds ect, but all looked good, so he took it back out, put the C engine back in, all good.
So he knows it is something in the rebuilt engine (possibly just tight from fresh rebuild) is not right..
The 59 engine is now out of the car, and will go back to his rebuilder for him to check..
so all good..
