Hoping for identification of my oil can and correct paint colours. The oil canister is for a 1960 356b t5 1600 normal Built late 59. I believe it is an H filter due to dimples on the bottom and the top lid edges are angled inwards - not a 90 degree edge. I believe the canister should be painted semi-gloss black and the top lid silver -but not sure and not sure of the type of silver and whether it is gloss/semi gloss etc. . Any help and confirmation would be appreciated. Note - the rubber hose through the lid is just scrap material to hold the lid for painting

Scott, the canister housing should not be black.

H-Filter canisters in the late A, early B period were usually all-silver, including the lid, although some lids might have been black.
Period photos, road tests and the early B workshop manual show all-silver H-Filter canisters.

Here's an original, unrestored example...

Thank you very much for the confirmation and the great visual. Are there any recommendations on the type of silver paint to use that is a good match?

Hi Scott ,
FWIW our early B Roadster built in '59 came with a fram and black top .
This is the original engine before being rebuilt in 2010--
