DISTRIBUTOR ID.

#1 Post by Jay Darlington »

I have a VJR4BR25 distributor. i'm almost positive it came out of my 58 356 many, many years ago. it ran good, BUT i never did drive it. is this a correct distributor for any porsche 356 ? i believe its an odd VW dist. i bought an 022 for my engine but on the dyno we couldn't get the proper advance. i had put all new parts in the 022 but may have mixed in some of the BR25 parts. DON''T ask why! I'm now happy with my 123 dist.

The VJR4BR25MK (0 231 129 020) was for a VW transporter 6/59 - 5/60. another number listed was 0 231 129 010. The 020 replaced the 010. This info is from Bosch catalog dated July 1965.

I’m not sure but is that one that has about half the usual amount of advance? I have one like that, about that age transporter but don’t remember the number.

as said above, we couldn't get the proper advance from the 022 on the dyno. (About half of what we needed) i surmise that the 022 MAY have some of the BR25 parts mixed into it ( i had both apart doing a comparison) and could have very well mixed the advance weights. I believe thats the only difference. i have a 123 dist. now and happy with it, i just want to sell these and don't know how one should describe them?

Jay - While the 022 is worth something, generally the BR25 will be tough to get rid of. Not desirable, even among the vw guys. I'd buy the pair and sort through parts. If you're interested in selling them to me, send me an email.
