What Kind of Jack is This?
Purchased a 1965 356C Coupe several years ago. It has a complete tool kit plus this jack. The jack doesn't appear to be stock. Any ideas on where it came from? "Bilstein" appears on the base.

And unfortunately the angle doesn’t allow it to be used on a 356

Re: What Kind of Jack is This?
The jack with the "tulip base" with double action for rod is for 72-79 VW. Base was later changed to the Bilstein base we all see. The rubber donut on top does not belong. It should have a thick O ring.

Re: What Kind of Jack is This?
Thanks to all! I guess I am now on the search for the correct jack. Tom is right. When I bought the car the jack was missing the rubber ring so I bought the donut thinking that was the correct part.

Re: What Kind of Jack is This?
The normal 356 sources only offer this jack but I don't think that I've ever seen it come with any 356. I guess that I need to search eBay or ??

That is a VW jack with the wrong angle. It cannot be used on a 356

SMC sells that jack for $725, marketing it as a Bilstein style jack:

Re: What Kind of Jack is This?
I had the same impression. Sierra Madre, Stoddard and Pelican all pull up this jack when you search on 356 Jack. Part number is 644.722.010.00. BUT, Sierra Madre shows two jacks under the same parts number. One does look correct.

Re: What Kind of Jack is This?
Doug,
The jack that looks correct, the one on the right, is for the earlier 356s. You can see the difference when you magnify the part that pivots. The correct jack for your car doesn’t have the cutout. It is supposed to be flat.

Re: What Kind of Jack is This?
In the description for the jack on the right they label it as "Type: 356B T6/356C (62-65), 911/912 (65-68) (1971)." Should it say "T5 and earlier"?

Yes. That jack is for the 57-62 356s. The correct jack for your car is the one shown in Tom Keating's post, above. I sent you a PM.
