Separating Mirror From Stem

#1 Post by Peter Silten »

I am trying to separate the day/night break away mirror head from its stem. I assume it is a screw fitting that connects the mirror to the stem. I have tried unscrewing the mirror from its stem but with no luck. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I unscrewed one like that, the stem off the mounting bracket. I’d assume they are all that way but you never know.

The "stub" on the mirror should have flats so you can use a wrench to unscrew from the stem.

Thanks guys. I tried using a wrench but it doesn't budge. I will try again.

Try using a penetrant like Kroil to loosen it up.

I tried. It has fused together, assuming I have been unscrewing the two pieces in the right direction.

Maybe try a little heat plus a penetrant. It should unscrew clockwise when oriented as in your pic.
