Put a simple test light with one side to ground and the other side to the terminal opposite the one that goes to the distributor, with the key on, it should light, if that has power, if it lights, you have power to the coil. If you have power there, then put the test light to the other side where the distributor wire attaches and turn the car over by hand, Pithecanthropus test light should light up about 1/4” before you get to top dead center on the lower crank pulley.Greg Erickson wrote: ↑Sun Sep 18, 2022 7:20 pm Jim, thanks for your reply…is there a simple way to test?

Thanks Jim, although you are too kind.
That diner has a funny history. A scoundrel acquaintance restored and sold a pair of diners to a friend of mine for a lot of money to house a restaurant. After a disgruntled employee burned one down, and a bankruptcy, it became a great coffeehouse and roastery. The scoundrel has bought and sold a number of 356s in the eighties and may still have an A coupe.

Re: 2022 drive your 356 Day
This is my first official post. I have been a member following the forum since 2017 and purchased my 1959 356A (108376) in 2019. It has been a work in progress. I started my DY356 trip with a backroads blast thru the NJ Pine Barren’s.
On my way home I stopped at this little Hidden Gem. Air Victory Museum, Lumberton, NJ. Great day for a 356 drive.

I have had this happen to me twice. Bad condenser. Especially the Turkish made Bosch units. Extremely variable in terms of quality and longevity.James Rowe wrote: ↑Sun Sep 18, 2022 6:12 pmThat would be the very next thing on the list, do you have a spare? When you do a tune up, heepmthe old working one as a spare, since it was working when you took it off for the tune up.Greg Erickson wrote: ↑Sun Sep 18, 2022 6:10 pm Thanks James for your comments. I think the points and distributor cap is ok ….thinking maybe condenser

By the way, I'll try to attach a photo of my far from concours car, taken in the "wilds" of Fullerton, CA.
