Push Rod Tube seals

#1 Post by Ron LaDow »

We have cleaned out inventory nation-wide for the uprated silicone seals, and this afternoon the last set of silicone seals went out the door. We have some few remaining to make up "emergency" parts. All primary sources have back-orders with Wrightwood.
In discussion with Wrightwood, (they confirm we got the last of them), their primary aim is to complete their gasket kits, which is no surprise. They expect a delivery in ~ 6 weeks, but none of those will go to secondary markets.
In the interim, we will offer a good-quality seal kit for those who do not have a gasket kit available.
We allowed some to 'plan' our economy and got what we deserved.

What's wrong with using 36 hp VW 1200 push rod tube seals?
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

Have no idea regarding the quality of their sets in general, but the P/R Tube seals are silicone and that stuff stays flexible under all sort of thermal and temporal excursions.

Not that I don’t trust them but I thought Victor Reinz had the market cornered. That’s all I’ve seen since about 1972.
Aren’t the basic seals dead reliable too?

Hard telling. There are certainly reports of leakage; seals or tubes? I've been using the Wrightwood goodies quite some time, and never found any failure. But that's the reason they are offered as option. If you have seals you prefer use those.

If the fancy modern ones are considered to be an upgrade I wouldn’t shy away from them.

Gasket sets discussed are: on the NLA website http://www.nlaparts.com/store/upper-gas ... 25802.html and there is an -03 version for engines with Solex carbs. about $73

I imagine that actually the first set is only correct for A and B Zenith engines, and the -03 version is for C/SC/912 as those three all have the same bigger intake ports

Hi Martin
the Reinz top end sets have gaskets for both carbs the Wrightwood sets are carb specific.
