Rudge Wheels
Were Rudge wheels a Porsche dealer or other option? How do I document their use to a car show judge? Thanks
Terry

Re: Rudge Wheels
Rudge wheels are listed on my car's Kardex, so I assume they were a factory option.

Re: Rudge Wheels
IMO Rudge wheels are a great look, and you and Peter are fortunate to have them on your car.
Unfortunately not all information made it on to the Kardex.
If you bought the car that way and a judge inquires, I would tell him the truth, this is the way
I bought the car so I can only assume it was built this way. Unfortunately the wheels did not make it
to the Kardex.
Most judges will admire the wheels and not contest it. If you guys would like to share a picture of your cars with the Rudge wheels?
I think you will have quite a few admirers on the Registry.

I said they were on my car's Kardex. Unfortunately, they are not on my car. They are long gone.

That’s not all bad. Now you have less cool but more functional wheels.

Re: Rudge Wheels
One of the most interesting photographs in Tony Singer's Porsche Factory Tour Summer 1960 is of not just Rudge brakes but 356B Rudge brakes.

Re: Rudge Wheels
You could probably get a dealer to fit a set to your car, but usually they were ordered with the car and appeared on the Kardex, like this.Terry Thomann wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 5:15 pm Were Rudge wheels a Porsche dealer or other option? How do I document their use to a car show judge? Thanks

That is very helpful. I can't read German. Does this kardex mention Rudge Wheels? This would be a good documentation for a judge. Thank you.

FWIW, satz = set. My Kardex doesn't use the word satz, only Radzentralverschluss-rader

Re: Rudge Wheels
Knock off hubs were common on prewar racing cars because of the necessity of changing tires during the race. Today race cars use single nut wheels changed with an air wrench. But the Rudge Wheels discussed here on 356s are a silly affectation. They are heavier than the stock wheels, reducing performance, and nobody has to change tires so fast. Unless they're on a 300SL they have no place in my garage.

Re: Rudge Wheels
All very true but I have the knock off wheels and I don't want to have to purchase a set of original 1960 date coded wheels to replace them. Besides people seem to like them
