Touch up paint

#1 Post by Terry Thomann »

I am trying to find touch up paint for my 1960 Ruby Red 356. The COA says its #6002 The door tag says #702. Its Ruby Red but what number do I go by and who has it. All the paint places I have found don't go back that far. Thanks

I suggest that you take your car to an automotive paint store and have them match your paint.

2001 Audi Amulet Red is a very good match to proper Ruby Red. I painted my 62 with it and nobody has ever questioned it. It would be an inexpensive experiment and if you didn’t like it nail polish remover would clean it off easily.

You really can't match paint good enough for touch up going by the numbers for various reasons, one of which is the tints are different than back in the day. Your car may have also been repainted at least once. The best thing to do is remove the hinge plate or torsion cover and take it down to the automotive paint store and have them match it.
