Re: My 59 Cab project
Finally got the carbs finished and back on. The torque converter arrived as well so I also torqued the flywheel finally and fitted the clutch so the engines ready to install.
I also stripped the top down and I will prep and paint it so it’s ready to recover once the parts arrive. Does anyone know what color the frame should be? I think I read somewhere it’s beige like the steering column but I cannot find it again to confirm…

Re: My 59 Cab project
AWESOME engine, great detail. i'm not sure about top frame color, i did mine with satin black epoxy I'm not after complete originality. let me tell you, your fun has just begun. assembly of the top, well i just can't type on here what i think. we just did one, contact me if you need any pointers. i'll tell you what i know which isn't much.
if you don't have "Restored By Hand" by Ron Roland it has some illustration and talk about top assembly. it's not thorough but does have some helpful information. i don't know where you bought your top, but Autos Internationals web site has some helpful info also phone help. there isn't a lot of info out there on top recovering.

Re: My 59 Cab project
Hi Jay,
Thanks, the engine has been a fun project. I tend to work on the details as it makes a big difference in the end.
I’m going to prep and paint the frame and then hand it over to an expert. I know a guy in town and that’s his business, he does a lot of work for my business and so I know he will do a great job in a fraction of the time it will take me. I’m an engineer but know my limitations, I could do it but it would take me four times longer and I have the rest of the car to build.
Cheers
Mark

Re: My 59 Cab project
I sent my 59 Conv. D top down to Autos International, and they had it blasted and repainted beige, the original color. Mine had been repainted black, but it was done by a previous owner, and the repaint did not include the parts of the frame that were inside the top fabric, so we had that to reference.

Re: My 59 Cab project
Mine was all black but it had been recovered. I found traces of beige paint underneath and so beige it will be.
Thanks
Mark
Thanks

Re: My 59 Cab project
Vic, I think he is referring to a "torque multiplier" type tool to torque the gland nut.

Re: My 59 Cab project
Thanks Dave, they are in final prep and should be done in the next week or two. You can see the doors in the background of this picture. They were all fitted and gapped before painting so everything should fit nicely. I’ve also finished the front vent window frames after rechroming and new seals etc.
