Re: Installing sound deadening in engine bay and trunk...
When I took off the drivers side side interior panel and sound deadening.. lots of small rust perforations below the 1/4 window, I replaced the entire metal panel - all the way back into the engine bay..

Thanks Jim Your pictures are excellent. Do you have any of the front trunk?

Re: Installing sound deadening in engine bay and trunk...
Some General comments which I hope will help
- Get the kit from Bill @ The Parts shop. His kit is the best and has the tar backing as original. Expensive but good
- Fit and measure dry (e.g. no glue or melted tar) use some chalk after you have fitted the piece to note location for easy installation once the glue or tar are "wet"
- Practice "dry" how you will install the piece, e.g. how are you going to hold it, how will you slide in the car, which corner will you press on first etc. Especially when dealing with Bills stuff this is a two man job. Get somebody to help you
- Take your time and make sure the pieces are warmed up to make them more pliable. Especially the front trunk pieces on the drivers side can be difficult as you have to work it over the tube for the front hood release
Good luck and let us know how things turned out

Installing sound deadening in engine bay and trunk...
Joris, excellent advice. A sunny summer day is perfect for installing the insulation, allowing the pieces to pre-warm in the sun. Winter is a great time to remove the old insulation in cold conditions to reduce the amount of damage if you desire to reuse it. Use effective ventilation if working with petroleum based contact cement.

And if you are going to heat with a torch as I did buy some welder's gloves.

I use a heat gun rather than a torch.

Re: Installing sound deadening in engine bay and trunk...
From my limited experience (I should have asked prior to doing mine) I would NOT do the main cabin in this type of material, I would only use the product only where it can be seen - so front and rear trunks / bays, and the two pieces in front of the doors, and the piece under the car, above the transmission.
All of the interior that is covered by carpet or other upholstery, or the inside of the doors, use a peel and stick product like 'Be Quiet" or any of the other peel and stick sound dampening products, far more effective than the original at 25% of the cost, and super easy to install..
just my thoughts.. and have a look at some of the premium shops doing $ 150k restorations..

Some progress.... The shape of the material is rather poor and needs a lot of work before fitting....
