Trevor Gates Metal Werks

#1 Post by Trevor Gates »

I’m announcing that I’ve opened my own shop. Specializing in “de-rusting” (as my kids call it) rust repair, on the Porsche 356. Both bare shells and running/driving cars can be worked on with a rotisserie or the tilter (just drain the trans fluid, gas and oil). The tilter is very handy for accessing underneath the car for jack spurs, longitudinals, battery box, etc WITHOUT total disassembly of the 356. I’m working on building the website now with pics of work already completed.

Looks good. Congratulations! I wish you great success.

Make sure to get some business advise from people who have been in the restoration business awhile. They can be a great asset to help you avoid the business mistakes that they learned the hard way.

Couldn't have said it better myself; except I would have spelled it "advice". :P

That "tilter" supporting the red car is a handy device for what looks like a constricted space. Did you make that? I'm puzzled as to how it works...

Good luck in your expanding business!

No I didn’t make the Tilter being used on the red car, but I did make the rotisserie being used on the shell. The Tilter works by bolting to the drums (or 356’s with disc brakes) and attaching a drill to the machine and raising/lowering it. Extremely handy in working on the underside and for scraping off undercoating without it getting in my eyes.

WTG Trevor. I have a 8 sided Octogon I picked up from a guy that did a couple 356's on it.
If you want to borrow it I don't need it for 2 1/2 years till I retire.

Thanks for the offer Martin. I’m pretty good on roll over devices.

There are probably a few on the forum who have rolled theirs over without the aid of devices......
Congratulations Trevor. May you be successful from the get-go.

This Friday, starting at noon, Jack and I are declaring it Fish taco Friday at our shops. (My shop is across the driveway from Jack’s)
The first 40 people get 2 free 🐠🌮’s.

This is all about supporting a small business (@mulligans_bar_san_clemente) that’s been shut down during the coronavirus and is re-opening this week.

Please practice social distancing 6 feet apart and wear a mask when not eating.
