The openings in the lower part of my car's front profile were filled in with metal. In the picture attached, the tow hook shaft is in the space where the open was originally. I had to open up two new holes above that to mount my driving lights (like on the later 911's).

Does anyone know of a specific steering wheel boss/adaptor that works with a '56 and a Momo wheel?

I was admiring your work and modifications. The car is developing nicely. Thanks for sharing your story!

I noted that you had your engine rebuilt at Coach Craft; my car is currently down at Tim's for a few touch-ups. Hoping to visit it soon.

Regarding a steering wheel boss, have you tried Jeffery Fellman at Classico Wheels? I think that he may make them or know of someone who does.

Thank you for the kind comments. It's been pretty cold so it's been hard to get out in the garage, but I'm going to push forward with the interior. I was wondering if there's anyone in the Charlotte area or even in North Carolina that has a Type A coupe. I would like to take some photos of the carpeting and interior trim. I have the materials but would love to see how they're supposed to be installed. I would appreciate anybody's help in response.
I tried sending an email to Kurt Dansberry as I thought he would know members locally that might have been A coupe I could look at. Apparently his 356 email address is not functional anymore....anyway, thanks in advance.

Has anyone put in their own carpet set?? Some of the pieces are obvious, but the three pieces in the rear area...I'm not sure. Can someone tell me verbally or send pictures that show me where/how to install these three pieces?

The middle picture part goes from the front edge of the back seat cushion down to the floor with the shift housing in the big notch.

I believe the top one goes on the back of the rear seat. I believe the one in the bottom photo goes on the rear firewall with the vinyl piece at the bottom and attached somehow to the bottom edge of the Bach seat. The vinyl piece is meant to cover the gap when the rear seat is down. Not sure how it is secured.

From the comments and other internet searches I've come to realize that the kit I bought is made for a stock coupe that has a back seat. The reason why a couple of the pieces don't make sense is because I'm building an outlaw with no back seat. That's why I think the square pieces didn't make any sense when I laid them in the car. I guess this is all part of doing something creative. Thank you for the responses.

Hi Perry - I was just paging through your build thread again and must say you have done a wonderful job!

As I was looking I did see a couple of things I probably should have commented on earlier.

First is the location of your brake and clutch fluid reservoirs. If you plan to use a full size spare tire, the reservoirs may interfere with the spare and cause it to sit high enough to prevent the hood closing. See the photo of my trunk with a GT tank and a 185/15 full size spare. My hood closes, barely, with nothing in the area in front of the gas tank.

Second is the battery location. It will work fine as is but it appears you have chosen an Optima that is wider than the battery recess area. An Optima size 25 or 35 will fit nicely into the recess and has the terminals on the opposite sides compared to the battery in your photos. You would have to modify your battery hold down system but it is something you may want to consider to gain some storage area. I used a battery hold down consisting of an aluminum plate milled to accept the battery base that has clamps front and rear that go over the battery base. The base itself secures to the battery box floor. See photos of my installation below. The size 25 optima I used has no problem cranking a 2 liter 4 cam motor.

Thank you for the kind words. I have mentioned a few times that I am learning most of this from YouTube (recently learned to paint with an air brush) as I go, so to get a compliment for you means a lot. As far as the tire goes, I'm probably jinxing myself and will likely cut a sidewall some time soon, but with my motorcycles and sports cars in the past, I have gotten by with a jack/plug kit and small compressor. The Pilot Sports on my '15 GTS seem to seek out nails and screws so I have gotten some practice. I did see a picture of an Emory build where he mounted the spare to the back of the roll bar like a rally car... that was pretty cool, but the last thing I need right now is to come up with "new" projects. The optima I have came with the project. I purchased a billet holder which holds it snuggly. I may fine tune things like that going forward, but for now, since I started this project 20 yrs ago, my main goal it to get it moving under it's own power. That and the things the past owner lied about ("it's a rebuilt 2.6 liter type 4" and "I lost the sunroof panel") have put a big dent in the budget. The battery still holds a charge, so I'm going to have to go with it for now.
