Ok the plus side that’s a nice engine to drive with. I had an SC in my speedster for a year or two.

Did Reutter use Phillips screws or slotted screws on interior panels?

In 1953 Reutter used slotted screws everywhere except the garnish rails. Those had Phillips.

I have to put something right: the paintjob was done by a company in Lollar near Gießen. The look was brilliant, but in some places the paint build was over 5mm thick, although a lot of new sheets were used. I was not satisfied with this and had the vehicle picked up again to correct it. I got the 1500 S back in April 2019, but there were still enormously thick paint areas over 5 mm. The company said that nothing would happen. As I had predicted, bubbles came up where the paint is particularly thick. In Germany you have to give someone the opportunity to make two improvements, but they only want to make improvements where the problem has arisen: Smart Repair on a completely newly restored vehicle! That is not what I want. So I contacted a lawyer. What do you think?

The paint is actually 5mm thick, or total of paint primer and filler? For paint only that’s crazy!

I would be very unhappy too if this was my car Oliver. So yes you must take action to remedy this problem. Keep us posted on how things turn out

I commissioned a thermographic review last week. This will graphically show where welds are and how thick the paint (but I actually mean „Spachtel“- german term) has been applied.

I too was at this trade a long time and those of you doing these cars, you are doing a fine job making Porsche proud. This Radium green and the dash color amazing, so much effort. My hat is off to you all. I hope to meet your expectations, amazing

Hi Guys,

I have been trying to get more information on the Rear garnish rails ( under quarter windows) to no avail.
If you look at the pictures below the DR White picture shows screws on the rear rail.
Similarly another 53 with the 3 screws in the second picture.
My 53 does not have the garnish with the 3 screw holes and the rear side panels are original with no holes for the 3 screws, there is no evidence that these were welded up by someone.

Anyone advise me what is correct?

best to all

Rear garnish rails were updated in mid-1953 from ones with screws on the face to ones without. The change occurred sometime between coupes 50822 and 50887, which puts it in the June/July 1953 time frame. This is detailed in Brett Johnson's "Authenticity IV" book.

How were they attached when the screws were not visible?

There’s a tab at the rear that inserts into a slot, and a hidden screw at the front that screws into the door jamb.

Wasn't the 1953 coupe sold at Gooding Auction, Amelia Island an original paint Radium Green? With a repaint above the doors. I have several foto's of it I'd be happy to post for reference.
