We are detailing the trunk/bonnet on our 52 . After this discussion, I have been looking into the fuel cock/tap. The old one doesn’t leak , which makes me wonder if I should change it or just clean it up. It didn’t have the filter. Wolfsburg West said they had the replacement filter ands rebuild kit for the 6 not the eight. I haven’t driven this car for a long time but it pushed along pretty well back I the late 70-80’s. Is the problem with the 6 a fuel delivery issue?

The gas tank is now out of the car...first time it has been removed from the car it appears it 72 years. Interesting to see how Porsche protected the bottom of the tank from the inner trunk shelf!
The fuel cock (petcock) or fuel valve was in great shape overall. The new 3-hole version of the valving gasket is shown here. Like David Green posted, it is a 19mm diameter gasket with just 3 holes and 4 "ears". The ears fit into slots or cutouts in the base of the valve chamber and keep the valving material from rotating. The valving gasket measures 3.15mm in thickness. The material is fuel-proof cork that is used for valve covers and other gaskets. I might see if we can have a batch of these laser cut for those that have pre 1952 356s with their original fuel cock. Speedwell USA has a variety of gaskets laser cut by a specialty shop in Sunnyvale, CA. (Also fits the early Barndoor Bus and early Beetle with the same fuel cock.)
Yes, it would be easy to just purchase a reproduction from one of the vendors, but there is something about saving an original part that still has great life.
