Some cool stuff there, so far no one has been able to figure out what car the pieces came off of.

Yesterday was cool. I borrowed an original fender off of 0054, thankfully my friend trusted me with it for a few weeks. The info it gave us was invaluable to make a pattern off of. Placement of the headlight, turn signal, and horn/brake cooling opening is crucial. And when you do it this way, you know it's right on the money! Like, "where do I put the mirror?", oh, right where the holes are on the original fender!
The big moves are fun but sometimes the little ones are fun too.

For example, look at the pattern on our wire frame. The turn signal and headlight are good, so our info on those up until now was accurate, but look how far off our opening was for the brake cooling, way way off, now it will be accurate. The devil is in the details....

I don't know man, everyone has known about that gearbox since forever, first Jim Barrington had it, then sold it to Jack Styles. It's cool, but not that kind of money cool. The engine, maybe, but it's still stuck in a Lotus with a guy who isn't very friendly. Eventually someone will get that and free it from it's Lotus tomb, now that would be cool!

So, what do you think the engine would be worth?

That's a different animal than the gearbox. The engine holds tremendous value by itself, as an early 550 4-cam. The Dean provenance is a bonus. But the gearbox, by itself, well, no one is knifing anyone for a 519 gearbox, so while the Dean connection makes it cool, not sure if it adds 6 digits of value. I guess the market will tell me if I'm wrong, post the for sale link if you can, I couldn't find it.

Well Adam.......this thing has reached $100K already with 2 weeks to go! My guess is that the bidder owns a real 550.

Like many things Porsche, it's not that something isn't worth X amount, it's just it's not worth X amount to me. But in the same vein, people, even Porsche people make strange faces when I tell them how much I've paid for 550 sheet metal, so it's all relative. I hope someone has big plans for this gearbox, rather than squirreling it away. The new cart is a nice touch too, I think Steve Hogue did it.
