Photo request - Steering Box Inspection Cover Seal

#1 Post by Dave Whittick »

I'm looking for a picture or source of the seal/gasket used under the steering box inspection cover plate for my 64c. The shop manual shows a white seal around the opening; possibly fabric. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the link. It's for my C which is different. Vendors don't seem to list a part for my 64.

It is also not listed in the official Porsche parts list. Was there one? I do not have one on my "C" either. This may be a good question to place in the general forum as there will be a lot more T6 owners who will see the question.

B's and C's didn't have the seal.

Dave

The cover is sealed by the insulation, which goes right to the edges of the opening.

Resurrecting this thread - Did the inspection covers on the T6B (And others for that matter) originally have sound insulation on the bottom side of the cover?

Anyone have pics of this? Why on bottom instead of top?

Just a guess but if the sound deadening was on top, it might stick to the plastic fuel tank cover but, on the Karmann-bodied cars, there is a sound deadening pad on top of it.

Pic from one on eBay.

Thanks Mike. There is also sound deadening on to of fuel tank. Never heard of it sticking to plastic cover.

I know the sound deadening is on top of the fuel tanks in Karmann-bodied cars but I don't think on Reutter-bodied cars. If you have a leaky fuel sender gasket or have the hood open on a hot sunny day, the original type sound deadening can stick to the plastic mat. The aftermarket felt mat wouldn't stick to the mat.
