Overhaul of Website Tech Library & Expanded Index

#1 Post by Michael Branning »

In an effort to improve that ability for members to find all the great content the club owns, I've rebuilt and simplified the Technical Library page. I just made it active and it's on the Technical menu of the main website. Here is a direct link:

https://porsche356registry.org/content. ... _id=481598

The biggest new feature is the index page, which Mark Roth and David Patrick built originally just for web articles, has been changed and expanded. It now is simply the Technical Index, with 600+ hypertext links covering many important technical articles from the magazine, all the web articles, links to factory resources, and also links to many great topic threads on 356Talk. It's organized by topic, but also - you can search the page using your browser for keywords in the links. So, it should be relatively easy to search, even on a smartphone.

We will be expanding the index over the coming months to add more and more. It is a big, long, "old-school" yahoo like directory, but it's simple and it works. Enjoy!

Nice improvement. One point: when accessing the Specs, Tables, Lists...Quick Reference Page and trying to access the Workshop Data By 356 Models, an additional login is required.

Thanks Mike - I just tested it. CE has a weird issue sometimes with external links but these are to internal pages. It works for me and I didn't edit those buttons from the prior version.

Try going to the main page of the website, logging out, log back in, and go to the Library page and try it. Anyone else have this issue?

Thanks, Michael. I try that and report back.

UPDATE: I logged out, cleared my history and logged back in. If I use your link, I had to log in again. If I use the Technical Documents link, I didn't have to log in again.

Thanks Mike - that's good troubleshooting. CE behaves strangely when resolving URLs. I'm going to report this as a bug.

This revision took a lot of work. I had taken a stab at revising the Technical Library page to simplify navigation and showed it to Michael. He took it as a suggestion for a wholesale revision which required many, many hours of cutting and pasting to combine the former drop down index on the TL page with the web articles page. He also had to move the wording of the web article index link around for each link. Plus adding links to many important forum topics. Massive job well done. Thank you, Michael.

There’s so much great info on hand, but even knowing what’s available is hard!

If anybody sees a great discussion on 356Talk that covers a subject well, send it to me and I can easily add it to the index.
