Leonard Scrantz RIP

#1 Post by George Bryan »

All, my dear friend and rock of the Helen events, Leonard, crossed the river this morning to peace. A true friend for decades, avid 356 and sports car guy, a Vietnam vet, and so much more. Sherry contacted me early this AM, as we have been very close thru Leonard's long suffering with serious illness for months. Even when ill, he valiantly pressed on to do his Registrar work for the upcoming event. Thankfully he is at rest, but he fought it all to the last breath. At a loss for more words. He will be missed. Regards, George

So sorry to hear this. Sincere condolences to his family. He was very welcoming and always reached out to help and introduce me to others when I was new to the 356 scene. He will be missed.

Very sad to lose such a nice man. He and Sherry have made 356 events much more enjoyable through their good cheer and their hard work. Sherry, I am very sorry for your loss.

I had the great fortune to first meet Leonard when he introduced himself to our group at the 2006 WCH. This began a friendship that included travel to and working together on several Registry events.
Leonard was a kind and generous man and he possessed a keen wit that could often be dry enough to cure meat. Sherry is equally hilarious but without the subtlety, they were quite the team. There was never going to be a shortage of laughs if either or both of them were around.

I blame myself that we have not been as close over the past couple years, but I will remember him fondly, always.

Godspeed Leonard

I think it would be appropriate for the Registry to have an In Memorium section in the magazine published when a member passes with a short biography.

Curt you summed up Leonard 100%.
I deeply remember the evening you and I had the honor of sharing some of life's moments with Leonard in the Lodge at a Helen event.
Listening to his Vietnam experiences made me really aware of how hard it hit his generation. We are lucky to not personally have had those events to live through.
God speed Leonard it was a great honor to have meet you.

I only had one interaction with Leonard and he was very helpful with advising me about recommended P&C and a cam. RIP Leonard.
Please see this topic in the Registry Business section for a discussion of an In Memorium section in the magazine.

I’m saddened to hear of Leonard Scrantz passing. My condolences to his family and friends.

I had the pleasure of meeting Leonard in 2011 at the Drive your 356 day event in Helen, Georgia.

It’s often said that these events are more about the people you meet than the cars. This was no exception. Leonard was so welcoming and we quickly became fast friends. I have fond memories of that event, meeting a lot of people, that share our enthusiasm for the 356. It’s still ranks as one of the best gathering of 356 enthusiasts I have ever attended because of people like Leonard. May he rest in peace.

Sat next to him and his wife at lunch during the Heartland Holiday. Picked up on that Louisiana accent right away after my time at Barksdale AFB. Remembered him being just a down to earth good guy. They drove that sweet white Speedster up from Louisiana. Hanging in there as registrar for the Helen event during that last days of his life says reams. I was looking forward to seeing him again. RIP.

George,
I'm very sorry to hear of Leonard's misfortune and untimely death.
Exactly one week ago I sent him an email stating that unfortunately I will not be able to attend the Georgia event this year, and requesting a refund.
Now I know the sad reason I have not received a response.
I will try to locate your email address and forward you the message that I sent him.
Sad regards,
Dave
