911 engine in a 356?

For those who couldn't care less how their 356 left the factory!

It's odd the seller didn't put the car on a lift and show us the underside of the "replica". With a fiberglass body, there are any number of forms for the chassis and suspension, not excluding an altered VW.

I personally feel the term "replica" is inappropriate for this type of creation. Something like "tribute" would suit me better. A replica might be along the lines of Adam's project wherein the structure of the subject car are largely replicated in metal, or even using salvaged original pieces as Adam has done.

Graham Kerr has a good write up of his 911 engine transplant project here in the Outlaw forum:

Personally, a 150HP VW Type 1 motor can be built with all new components for a lot less money, without changing the weight/handling characteristics of the 356.

(It wouldn't sound like a flat six, I'll give you that, but would be much easier to do/reverse.)

Correct! I don't like to see a VW engine in a 356 but it would make a much better result than 911 power.

Both of those have the engine/gearbox pushed forward to improve balance. You can dig through the photos a bit to see what's involved in mounts and such. It's certainly a lot of work but they are tons of fun to drive.
