Beige turn signal switch on a 55 ?

#1 Post by Rex Vandenberg »

Most of the photos and research I have done show that June 53 to 1955 Pre-A would have a black Turn Signal light switch.
However,
My Reuter certificate for my September 55 says it was Beige ?
or is this a Reuter mistake ... what do others have listed on there Reuter certificate ?
what would be correct then ?

on the Reuter web site
https://reutter-karosserie.de/en/Spare- ... nated.html
it has
"(Housing color beige of the 52 model - later black, the color can be easily adjusted)"

But the Good Doctor says 52 Model was Ivory Page 125 IV

This is a mistake.

When they were first putting out these Reutter certificates, they routinely made this mistake on pre-A cars, and the reason is that Reutter actually has no record of what color the turn signal switch is for any particular pre-A chassis number, because Porsche installed that on the assembly line - Reutter did not. Reutter is just guessing. Or based on information that is not unique to any particular car's records, but just a general production change, but they got this wrong early on, we corrected them, and now they are doing it right.

If this Reutter Certificate was made several years ago, then this mistake is the culprit. If it was recent, then they're still getting it wrong.

You can understand why they have the Certificate set up this way for the 356A, where the housing matched the beige or grey of the other knobs, the steering column and steering wheel. This was not the case for pre-A cars, where the column was black and from mid-1953, so was the signal housing.

See photo below of tray of parts ready to be bolted on the delivered Reutter shell by Porsche workers at Porsche Werk II. This is mid-1954.
