Los Gatos to Los Gatos Tour, San Jose, Santa Cruz

#1 Post by Steve Douglas »

Calling all Silicon Valley and Santa Cruz 356ers

November 26th, Sunday after Thanksgiving we are doing a tour. Los Gatos To Los Gatos, while it’s a 356 event, driving a 356 is not required. Everyone is welcome. This is a tour that we did 25 years ago and enjoyed by about 40 356ers and friends
Meet at the Chase Bank Parking lot 400 N. Santa Cruz Ave Los Gatos
9:30am meeting, we leave at 10.
This is at the corner of Highway 9, Saratoga / Los Gatos Rd. and Santa Cruz Ave Los Gatos CA There is a Starbucks in the same complex for your caffeine fix.
RAIN CANCELS !!!
Total of about 95 miles to get back to where we started. So gas up before we leave, there is an expensive Chevon across the street.
Leg #1 Traveling all backroads, some rarely traveled, lakes, Gilroy wine country, and the Hecker Pass, not a fast way to get to our lunch, but great driving roads.
For those who are in the Monterey Bay Area you can meet 11:30 at the lunch point, The Hanger 509 Aviation Way. Then join in on the 2nd part of the tour back to Los Gatos, followed by the 3rd part of the loop, returning back to Watsonville.
11:30 Lunch at the The Hanger/Beer Mule 50 Aviation Way. in Watsonville. Besides the Beer Mule’s“Pub Grub” , there are: Hawaiian Tacos and Tea, Gourmet Hot Dogs and wonderful Crepes. Vegan options too. 30 beers on tap plus other beverages. Outdoor dinning, with some indoor too. Be prepared for late fall weather, it could be 70 or 55, as you never can predict the coastal climate.
Leg #2 of the tour will try and dodge the traffic on highway 1 going into Santa Cruz. Backroads thru Aptos and Soquel. Then thru the Santa Cruz Mountains back to Los Gatos, about 2:30.
For those who joined in Watsonville, leg #3 will repeat the #1 leg getting you back to Watsonville. This will resume after a fairly quick stop, about 3pm getting to Watsonville about 4:15.
What else? It’s a 356CAR sponsored event, hopefully you are already a member, it’s an inexpensive club, that is been in existence for 40 years covering Northern California.

Randy, thanks for coming out, it was a great drive, so much less traffic than expected on the last day of the Thanksgiving weekend. I did 168 miles and only about 2 miles of traffic, amazing, where was everybody? There will a South Bay Breakfast starting up in January, 3rd Saturday's, 8:30am. Michael's restaurant at Shoreline Golf Course. Hope to use this to launch a few more drives and a tech session or two.

I'll chime in too. Thank you so much, Steve, for organizing and running the drive. It was a blast. Beautiful roads, picturesque scenery and good food. (great people too).

I'm in for the next one too.

That Michaels looks like a teriffic location. It should draw the Los Gatos and San Jose people as well.
