I guess it depends on how many iterations of the original exhaust were made. There were about 50% more 356's made than W113's and there is more than one iteration of the W113 exhaust. The W113 has dual exhaust pipes from the front to the rear, with plenty of bends. By comparison the 356 exhaust looks comparatively simple.

Good points, Marcus. It would be great to have an accurate and well-made replacement muffler.

I understand the newer Dansks merely have poor quality, but fit ok.

Hey, one out of two isn't all that shabby.
Some days it's just not worth chewing through the restraints.....

Maybe someone that lives near Melbourne Florida can drive over to Timevalve with their 356 and ask them (preferably if they have an original exhaust) if they were interested. They make so many different exhausts for MB and Ferrari that maybe they'll take it on if they know we are looking for an alternative to current offerings. Just a suggestion. I'd do it but I don't currently have an original exhaust (though I would like to get one) and it's a little out of the way.

Hi, Jon. I have no idea. I have an original on my engine so no need for a substandard one.

Eisenmann always seems to be left out as an alternative to the Dansk failure in these discussions. Is there a reason for this?

Good point, Jim. I've read good things about it. I think even a Bursch would be a better option. I think a lot of decisions are based on price and sound.

'Even a Bursch'
Think they are now made by Sierra Madre.
And with the choice of Stainless, no doubt a little louder.
Always been a nice sound in my opinion.
Any Feedback on these new productions ?
Cheers Jay

Mike Wilson et all! ZIMZ has to do this with the engines we rebuild. It is time consuming and you need to be skillful to be successful. You just cannot drop your muffler off and wait for the miracle to happen! al

Al, do you install Dansk mufflers and just take it for granted they all need corrections to fit?

NEW AND STARTELING DISCOVERY: THE NEWEST 356 IS NEARLY 60 YEARS OLD. *** EVERY SINGLE CAR AND ALL THE RUNNING GEAR WAS HAND ASSEMBLED*** WE HAVE JUST COMPLETED A 356C WITH EUROPEAN HEATERS AND A NEW DANSK MUFFLER. THE TAIL PIPES FROM THE MUFFLER TO THE BUMPER FUNNEL ARE BENT WRONG! AND TOO LONG We will have to section the pipes fit them properly and weld them back together AFTER fitting. Possibly a 2 hour job with contemporary welding equipment and the car 6 feet off the ground.
ADDITIONALLY:
ANOTHER EXAMPLE: All the sheet metal needs to be redone (straightened, resized for the rubber seal) it takes at least a full day to do this. MISSSING SHEET METAL PARTS!!!OH CRAP. You carry everything to the powder coater they get a list of delivered parts so you can compare it to returned parts. $600.++
MIKE: EVERYTHING ON THE CAR NEEDS FITTING. It takes precision measuring tools to do this.
ZIMZ seldom does 6 volt cars. A correctly restored generator needs a NEW armature and field coils.
where does that come from?
Look back on some of ZIMZ engine rebuilding posts! In reply to one of my posts a member of the registry stated that if you purchased the parts from him he would build your engine for FREE!

I, too, have run into the repro engine tin not fitting without trimming, etc. Some time ago I purchased a muffler that was supposed to be a Leistrtitz but the upper right flange was not parallel to the head. Yep, it was the dreaded Dansk and when removed, showed cracks in the welds. I don't think a lot of people know how much time ($!) goes into properly fitting engine tin and rubber.

There is a company rebuilding 6V generators and starters so they must have a source for the armatures, etc. but they are asking big bucks for the generators and starters on eBay.

Fortunately I have spare 6V parts but future owners with 6V systems may have a difficult time finding parts.
