Steve Var wrote:Can we retitle this to 'Kit cars that look like 356's but are not' in the movies and put it in Off Topic also?
Steve, the website that started this discussion, at http://www.imcdb.org/vehicles.php?make= ... &model=356, clearly shows many 356s in movies that are real Porsches, not fakes. So a discussion of the 356s shown on that site is not necessarily off topic. So far Adam has posted about Russ Meyer's real C coupe, Jerry posted about a real A coupe, Tom posted about real 356s used in "Breathless", I posted about the real Speedster used in "Coming Home". All on topic.

NOTE: if there is a question for the moderators please contact them directly, do not post your question in the Forums. This practice was started by Robin Hansen and Rick Dill, 356Talk founders, and it is a good one. There is no need to add to post volume with moderator questions.

Thanks,

Paul Newman drove a Speedster with a primered door in "Harper". The car ended up over a cliff.

They actually used two cars in Harper, the one they used most of the movie with him driving did not go over the cliff. It's since been restored.

On year at the Helen 356 event in GA we had a Drive-in event and watched Harper. #1 he drove a Beat up A. #2 the Speedster to go over the cliff was a beat up Pre-A. This was a total waste because they sent the pre-A over the cliff to soon. They needed to take every print of the movie ever made and throw it in the trunk of that poor Pre-A before it went over the cliff. I would always to be a loss of a great car, but it's death would have had meaning by destroying all copies of one the most boring slow detective movies ever made.

Pretty sure they destroyed a Pre-A when they made On The Beach, not that I really cared since Ava Gardner was in it, hard to see cars...

Aw, a Split Window at that.

To bad, I could have fixed that. "My Dad was a TV Repairman and had an Awesome set of tools!"

They have a separate page for Porsche 356b Cabriolet: https://www.imcdb.org/vehicles_make-Por ... iolet.html
It has the opening scene from the movie FM listed. Youtube has a promo cut with part of the drive through the streets, trying to get to work on time in it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWLoisEiTP0. The real movie starts out with the scene involving the Eagles "Life in the fast lane" playing for about 2 minutes in which the Cab rushes through the streets, evading the police by turning around under a bridge, and passing the police coming the other way, and making it to the studio before the dreaded Dead Air can happen. Based on the smoke, the missing turn signal covers, and the body roll, is is just a great B Cab driver condition, not a replicar.

(wow, made 45 years of ownership on the 60 Cab!)

Drive a Crooked Road is a 1954 American crime film noir , saw on the TV last night, filmed in LA in 1953 and the foreign motor garage was evidently a real place and a pre-356 comes in for service, also some in racing scenes

In the film "king of Thieves' starring Michael Caine, there are multiple scenes in his workshop planning the heist where a 356A is sitting there in without the windscreen and rear glass. Not an element of the plot and never mentioned in dialogue but prominent none the less sorry no screen shot

I didn't want to go through all 25 pages in the car database, but did any of you notice the 356 driving by in that famous Dirty Harry "make my day" scene?
