instrument bulb holders and light switch
I have a couple of inquiries related to a T1 car:
1. Does anyone have a bulb holder for the gen light, or know who might have one?
2. Is there someone that can repair the rheostat inside the headlight switch that operates the dash lights? It is a small wire at the end of the coil that has come undone I believe, but I do not have the skill to do it.
Thanks

Can you post a pic of the bulb holder? Some of us might have what you need.

Hey Rob, i have a dual prong bulb holder for you.
For the dash lights you could bypass the rheostat and have the dash at full brightness, just pigtail them to the exterior lights at the switch.

I'm not aware of anyone who will rewind the rheostat on the light switch - that would be a delicate job. And considering there are good used samples readily available, it isn't likely that you will find someone to repair it.

Those would be the taillight sockets, so too big for dash lights.

Not sure if it is a single or double terminal socket.

Re: instrument bulb holders and light switch
I believe the generator light socket has two terminals, one for the generator and one for battery voltage. The socket is not grounded like the single terminal ones, and is wrapped with black plastic to insulate it from grounding.
But inside the socket of course just a single center contact.

Re: instrument bulb holders and light switch
The oil pressure light, generator light, e-brake on light sockets all use the bulb holder with two connectors. All other lights use the single connector bulb holder and ground directly to the instrument case.
They all use the same single pole bulb

The T1 turn signal light also uses a two connector bulb holder, but it is different from the others. Makes no sense and it is easily replaced with a single connector bulb holder

Thanks for all this info.
Is there a PN for the two terminal bulb holder noted and a possible source?
Not having muck luck with this.
Thanks!

Hi Peter, Pelican carries them. They are also used in 911and 914.

Re: instrument bulb holders and light switch
Thanks to all those who have responded for the help.
Below is a I'm sure yet another cautionary tale and lesson learned: FYI
For now, the issues I had with bulb holder for gen light is solved, so I have some time to source a good, original replacement. When I did the car over 18 years ago, I elected not to replace the wiring harness, instead I went over every connection I could. I was trying not to cut any of the old wiring, so I stripped, re soldered new bullets, and shrink tubed all the wiring ends under the dash. I re-soldered the loose ends of the instrument lights that are received by screw-in original connectors...probably overly conservative of me. The bulb holder and wire to the gen light, unbeknownst to me, was loose at the base, and thus gave me problems with an intermittent blinking gen light at speed. I had a Joe Leoni rebuilt Gen and VR, but nevertheless several "top" mechanics tried to attack from that end and cost me a bunch to no avail. One botched job resulted in a send-back to Joe, who fixed it for free, but warned me not to go back to that shop. I think I knew all along it was due to my work....a corollary of Murphy's law...it's the fault of the last guy who touched it, if it was working previously.
