Re: Orientation of the key in the ignition
I’m thinking that the correct position puts it vertical when ignition is on.

Agree with Vic and Dick. Same for pre-A cars.

Here's what I made up to remove the bezels. Just some round stock bent and threaded for a nut.

Re: Orientation of the key in the ignition
Thank you to all who commented. This was very helpful. I tried a couple of "homemade" tools to tighten the bezel, but they took both hands and I need one hand to hold the ignition behind the dash to keep it properly oriented to 10:00 . I think will just order the tool from Stoddard suggested by Mark Roth.........Another somewhat related question. When I was looking up under the dash trying to figure things out I noticed a rectangular hole I had not noticed before. (pictured). What was this for? Thanks again

The rectangular hole is for an electric sunroof switch.

Jason; if you install the special washer mentioned in post #8, you won't have to hold the switch from turning. Simply push against the inside of the dash and tighten the bezel.

I will order the special washer when I order the tool for tightening here in just a minute. I really appreciate your input.

I looked in the parts book and it is not listed separately from the switch. Stoddard did not show one but Aase Sales does:

EDIT: This *might* be it on Stoddard's site but it does not specify with a description: https://www.stoddard.com/64461310200.html
