Re: Can't get engine in
"I replaced the transmission mounts in my '64 and the studs as mentioned above were just slightly too long which stopped the mounting procedure about 1 inch from happiness. Lots of frustration before I figured that out and ground down the studs."
Also, on replacing the trans mounts, the bolt heads go inside the bell housing. The opposite will not allow fitting of the engine.

Excellent, so we know the engine is now installed but it would be great to know what the culprit was. Any chance you can find out and let us know?

Re: Can't get engine in
Hi Martin
As Seb mentioned David's engine would Not install. SO
What was the Issue stopping it ?
We just seem to lose it, It would be very useful to know why ? As the story didn't really continue on that other thread, Jim. Am I missing something ? ( like a brain) Anyway. Dave's OK
Cheers Jay

John.. not you that needs a brain.. its me..
I attached the wrong thread link, and now cannot find the correct one.
David has another thread that talks about the engine not turning over..
he was sucsessfull in getting this engine in.. then it would not start.. and that is the other thread..
I will try and find the correct thread...

Re: Can't get engine in
Probably not even necessary to give us the link to the new thread, if you could just tell us what the interference was since David did not that would be most kind of you. This is for two reasons: The people who tried to help in this thread would probably like to know what it actually was and.....in the future when people are having this issue and do a search they would find the answer in one thread and not have to chase down multiple threads like a detective.Jim Clement wrote: ↑Tue Apr 04, 2023 9:44 am John.. not you that needs a brain.. its me..

Re: Can't get engine in
THIS
"When I have this issue it always seems to be the engine is not in the proper vertical axis, ie, the rear of the engine is too low. If the gap from the engine to transmission is less at the bottom than on the top this is the case. "
AND THIS
Also put it in gear with the parking brake on. Then turn the engine back and forth a bit, sometimes that allows the clutch spline to line up and drop in
ALSO
If you have new rubber seals on the sheet metal they can be stiff and hang up. Make sure they are going on right. A little silicone grease on the inner sides of them help.
