Cab B pillar interior finish

#1 Post by Mark Dinsdale »

Hi All,

Does anyone know how the top of the B pillar should be finished on an A cab? I’m trying to figure out how the leather goes over the top of the post or is the top painted?

I have included some pictures of options.

Thanks
Mark

Mark,

I don't know how correct it is, but this is how mine is done. It's a '59.

You can see that mine is vinyl. Leather may be more difficult to get it to stretch/conform.

I've looked at a few photos of the pillar top on sites such as Autos International and find definite variety among cars with new interiors. I have come to the conclusion that this area is always covered either by the top when it's up, or by the tonneau when the top is down. The pillar top is only visible if the top is down without a tonneau. Don't tell the concours judges!

The top of the B pillar was originally covered in vinyl. It was stretched over, no creases/folds. Here are a couple of photos of unrestored cars. First is a '63 cab, second a Roadster. ConvDs were similar.

My 62 cab had the tops exposed when I bought it. It was a ratty 18 year old car, so I doubt if they had restored the B pillars.

A few more examples... The first two are unrestored ConvDs. The last is from the 1958 cabriolet hardtop instruction booklet.
