#1 Post by Jim Morris »

Will 6.5 X 15 minilites fit on 63 t6 (still all drum brakes) with no modifications?

Before you spend your money have the wheel crack tested. These are cast wheels not forged. I have 6 inch wheels on my stock fender T-1. with wide tires but everything is a very close fit. Do not change the body of the car to fit the wheels and tires. This will be an expensive situation to return to factory specifications.
The 60 year old suspension on your car is worn out. It would behoove you to talk to me about this situation before you start. Al Zim 817-267-4451

Thanks Al. You point out that you have 6 inch versions on your car, But I still want to know will 6.5 X 15 Minilites FIT on a 63 t6 without modification. Sounds like it might be too tight, but I'd like to hear from someone for sure who has fitted (or tried to fit) the 6.5s.

I welded up 6” steel rims on my T6 and with 195/60 15 tires it seemed right at the limit. And sometimes different brand tires of the same size are somewhat different. And many T6s are tighter on one side than the other. Probably your only certain answer would be to try them on your car with tires.
I wasn’t aware that there were Minilites for drum brake cars.

Jim,

I had Minilites on my 64 Cab . With 195x 60 15" tires mounted on the wheels there was the thickness of my index finger
between the tire and the inner rear fender wall . Never seen drum brake bolt pattern on Minilites, only discs

I had 6.5x15 Minilites on a winter project car I bought: viewtopic.php?t=42619&hilit=winter+outlaw Are you talking about Real English Minilites? Panasport copies? Sorry but I don't know what the wheel offset was on mine but Minilite made wheels for lots of cars so be careful.

Thank you, everyone. I've concluded that even if 6.5 Minilites would fit the given space, the bolt pattern (on the wheels under consideration) would work only for disc brake applications. I failed to consider what should have such an obvious factor as differing patterns, before I put you all to such trouble. Sorry.
