Re: 356C heater slide location
I have owned 2 and worked on a few more C cars and all the heater slides were held on by 4 screws at the corners as far as I remember.
An ice pick or similar sharp pointed tool will find the original mounting holes.

If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

From the B parts manual. 8 screws needed so 4 per slide.

Re: 356C heater slide location
Thanks Mike. During my research I found part number 644.572.710.03 for the slide. It only shows it for a B/T5, I don't see anything about a C. Like a few cars I've read about, the holes for these slides were covered up when the previous owner of my car had it restored. Before locating and purchasing some slides and screws I just want to make sure I'm getting the correct parts.

Re: 356C heater slide location
I didn't see any revisions in the B supplement or C parts manuals.

Re: 356C heater slide location
Somewhere down the line something was changed. I'm pretty sure my "C" slides are original with 2 screw holes but I can't argue what others have posted.
Looking at the pictures posted I noticed some differences, mostly with the way the end of the slide was stamped. See my crude drawing to see what I mean.
So, was this a mid series change, new supplier, or what?

Re: 356C heater slide location
Thanks Don. In post #10 you mention your 356 is a 62C. Is that correct? My understanding is production of C's started in July of 1963. I'm new to the 356 world and I'm still learning, so I could be wrong. Maybe the difference in the slides is B vs C?

OOOPS! My mistake typo, my car is a later '65C. Good catch, that would make all this REALLY screwed up!

Re: 356C heater slide location
Question about heater slider screws.
In the first pic are some screws that came with other extra parts for my car. The packet they came in is labeled heater slider screws. Please let me know if you are familiar with these screws? I was unable to find these online.
The second pic shows the screws I will be ordering from Stoddard for my 65C.

The first set, 6mm threads? We used to use hex headed versions of those for the carb heat flanges on VW muffler jobs, even misaligned they’d usually go in. But if one broke it was much too hard to drill out.

Re: 356C heater slide location
Those in the first pic are self-tapping cheese head screws. Not for heater slides but could be used with washers for attaching engine tin to engine tin; not to the case, but are longer than they need to be.
