Early Pre A fuel cock operating rod ?
We at the moment working with a 356 Pre-A Cabriolet, original Finnish car, matching numbers etc. I would need your help to find the correct fuel cock operating rod for this early Pre A car. Our 04/1955 cabriolet is VIN 60796. The question is if the early pre A cars (before VIN 53526 and 60815) had the same operating rod with the round sticker: R-A-Z as the later cars ? There is a lot of old operating rods (short with 90° bend end) for A to B T5 and the later model from B T6 to C (longer version with 45° bent end) for sale, but no rods for early Pre A? This same issue applies for aftermarket rods - No rods for early pre A cars ? This operating rod existed already in old spare parts manuals in 1953 and 1955. The pre A model had a spare parts number 356.56.101 and the A model rod is 644.201.241.00. Was the early Pre A operating rod the same as in A to BT5 or is there a different model ?

Jussi
The earliest 356A parts book (Catalog III) shows the part number to be 356.56.101, the same as found in the Pre A parts books. The later versions of the 356A parts book show the part number as 644.201.241.00. I believe that they are the same part but that the difference in the part numbers is a result of Porsche converting from a 8 digit part number to an 11 digit part number.

As Jim says, the fuel cock operating rod did not change from pre-A to the BT5, even though the petcock design changed a couple times.
And in the 1957 parts book published in 1959, it lists the part with the new part number, but also lists the old part number under "Remarks". Same part.
